Workshops and Festivals

24th U.S. Poet Laureate, Ada Limon

My friends at OCU and the Jeane Hoffman Smith Center are at it again! This time, they're bringing workshops, open-mics, and featured readings with one of the living greats among U.S. poets. I plan to be there! What a weekend March 29-April 2 will be -- a great writer's weekend through public humanities programs.

Book Release Party, March 28, 7 p.m.

Come out to Full Circle Books to hear readings by two authors of recent books, both from the region's new, rising publisher, Belle Point Press. Matt Miller and Benjamin P. Myers will be reading from their new titles from Belle Point. Free reception and signing to follow.

Free, Registration Required

In addition to the free public reading, writers may register for free workshops with published authors and community gatherings of writers by genre (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, screen/stage, and memoir). Genre Workshops will be small to increase community and interpersonal connection by writers with similar interests. The McBride Writers Festival 2025 will also include a free meal, publishers panel, and open-mic reading. Optional sign-ups for monthly writers' groups led by published, volunteer leaders. Come write with us! Register at the QR code OR www.oc.edu/askew

Workshops and Festivals

20th Scissortail Creative Writing Festival

So many friends and writers headed to Ada, Oklahoma, this week for Scissortail. I'm so impressed by what Ken Had and his friends have built the past two decades. Two decades, ya'll! That's a lot of writers inspired, informed, encouraged, and showcased. Thanks to Amber Sharples and the Oklahoma Arts Council for helping get it going and the NEA and all the many folk it takes to make this happen.
