Los Angeles -- What an honor to read new poetry at Antioch University's MFA events in December, 2023. Amazing mentors at AULA have included Victoria Chang and Vandana Khan (pictured here.) Shout outs for Piotr Florczyk, Carol Potter, Jaswinder Bolina, Xochitl-Julisa Bermejo, Jenny Factor, and many more. Guest faculty have included Kwame Dawes, Chen Chen, and Ellen Bass.
Accomplished poets can teach us a lot about our world, ourselves, and art. I enjoy discussing great work with other writers, so I'm sharing some of these in the blog. Ellen Bass, Kwame Dawes, Jaime Balboa, and Toni Ann Johnson are some of the latest.
An experienced presenter to writers' groups and classrooms, as well as a flexible and productive consultant for industry, education and non-profit organizations and leaders seeking to build capacity through public humanities and the arts. I've served as Leadership Coach for executives in start-ups, non-profits, top national organizations, and leaders at the local level.
What fun meeting and hosting writers -- famous, MFA students at open mics, or beginners. My work as founding director of the McBride Center for Public Humanities kept me engaged for 20 years of fun opportunities to meet and host poets and writers including Dana Gioia, David Henry Hwang, Bryan Stevenson, Marilynne Robinson, David Grann, Robert Pinsky and many more.
